Crime and safety tops priority list

Every respondent to a consultation for the local authority wants the top priority in the district to be a safe community – as 180 violent crimes were committed in South Holland during September alone.

There were more than 400 crimes across South Holland for the month, according to the latest police figures.
The biggest single category was violent offences – with a total of 176 recorded across the seven different policing areas in the district.
Public consultation carried out to shape the future strategy of the partnership of local councils shows that the biggest single area of concern is community safety.
The South East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership carried out the consultation work to help shape a strategy for its future priorities across all three member councils.
An initial report earlier this month showed that 100 per cent of those taking part in the consultation wanted a safer community.
An updated set of statistics due to go before members of the full council yesterday (Wednesday) show the priority is still top of the list, ahead of healthy lives, growth and prosperity and the environment.
Sub-regional priorities for the partnership have been outlined in the strategy document, first looking ahead to 2029.
“This has been overwhelmingly positive in favour of the proposed priorities,” says the report.
But while the council partnership is concentrating on its role within the wider community, crime statistics show 56 violent offences in the Spalding Estates policing area alone in September.
Aside from safe communities, other priorities outlined for South Holland include delivering quality core services,
The recorded crime numbers can be found on the police’s own website and show offences committed in Holbeach Town and Rural, The Suttons, Spalding Town, Spalding Estates, Spalding Rural North, Spalding Rural South and Spalding Rural East.
