CRICKET: Stand-in skipper delighted as Spalding Town Ladies see off Market Rasen

Spalding Town Ladies pulled out a great performance to avenge a defeat by Market Rasen earlier in the season.

Rasen won the toss on Sunday (Aug 16) and decided to bat.

Hayley Jones (0-32) and Amelia Gardner (2-9) opened the bowling. Yasmin Martin (0-29), Ellie Stanley (1-19), Lucy Buttery (3-12) and Kelly Sawyer (2-4) battled through the overs, bowling Rasen out for 124 in less than 38 overs.

Spalding openers Samantha Featherstone (6) and Lucy Buttery (4) lost their wickets relatively soon. However, Stanley (29), Jones (31), Gardner (33no) and Martin (5no) managed to lift the run rate and surpass Rasen’s score in 31 overs.

Jones, who was standing in as captain, said: “Market Rasen are a tough opposition, but our girls rose to the challenge.
“I’m so proud of everyone today, we gave a solid performance and it is a massive win for us! I’m buzzing!”
