Cricket round-up: Sutton lose opener against Heckington, Morris makes 60 for Spalding 2nd

South Holland sides were among a clutch of teams to get their South Lincs and Border League season under way on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, Long Sutton 1st suffered a 49-run defeat against Heckington at Paradise Field.

The visitors scored 188-9 batting first, with Jed Humphries (56) and Richard Wells (48) scoring well.

Josh Baker (2-49) and Jake Burton (2-53) were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Sutton were all out for 139 in 36.1 overs, with Angus Bell (30) and Calvin Bird (22) top scoring.

Also beaten were Spalding 2nd, as visiting Orton Park got the better of them by 70 runs.

An unbeaten 88 from Nicholas Du Toit and 55 from Mark Durham saw Orton score 235-5 from their 45 overs.

Thomas Decamps (4-38) was Town’s star turn with the ball.

Spalding hit 165-9 in reply at Seas End Hall, with George Morris (60) and William Gardner (41) both scoring nicely.

This Saturday sees Spalding Town 1st make their return to Lincs ECB Premier League action.

Town welcome Sleaford Town to their newly revamped base at Seas End Hall, with the action getting under way at 11.30am.

In the South Lincs and Border League (1pm), Long Sutton are at Bourne 2nd and Moulton Harrox host Deeping 2nd in the Premier Division.

Harrox 2nd travel to Baston in Division One, with Spalding 2nd hosting Heckington 2nd at the Memorial Field on Sunday (also 1pm).
