Crew’s new Big Screw Brew

A Spalding man’s bid to launch support for custodial workers has been hailed a success.

Mark Le Sage, a former prison officer, set up the first Big Screw Brew to coincide with Hidden Heroes Day.

It encouraged people in, or previously in, the profession to get together and talk to each other.

It came about after Mark visited his former colleague at HMP Stocken, in Rutland, Keith Berry and spoke about the challenges life had thrown at them.

Mark joined a host of colleagues at a Big Screw Brew in Bourne.

“It was a resounding success,” he said. “I’m very proud of how it all came together and the response from the attendees.

“Keith was overjoyed to see so many of his old colleagues and be able to reminisce as well as catch up on more recent events.

“I invited Simon Hallam, from Veterans Support Services, as so many prison and custodial staff have an ex forces background.

“He was very pleased to be able to offer support to several attendees who have ongoing health requirements.

“I am very grateful to the management and staff of the Sugar Mill for helping us to have such a successful event.

“It’s been so successful that the next Big Screw Brew is planned to take place there on Friday, November 28 at 10.30am.”
