Some weekends go well and others do not but for G&S Racing Kawasaki it was a case of both scenarios at Oulton Park.
Jorel Boerboom suffered a crash in the National Superstock race through no fault of his own on Saturday, and on Sunday the two Junior Superstock riders, Sam Laffins and Asher Durham, finished third and fourth in the Junior Superstock race.
Boerboom had two races this time and was hopeful of two strong races after qualifying in 23rd place and was placed on the eighth row of the grid for the start of the first race on Saturday.
He was unfortunate to become tangled in someone else’s crash and was brought down on one of the fastest sections of the track at Cascades, on the opening lap.
He was stretchered off and taken to the medical centre for assessment where it was found he had a dislocated and fractured shoulder.
The medical team realigned his shoulder at the circuit but it was obvious that he was unable to take any further part in proceedings.
Meanwhile Laffins and Durham completed their qualifying in sixth and tenth place and lined up on Sunday afternoon for the start of the Junior Superstock race.
Both riders were in the thick of the action throughout the 11 laps with Laffins up to third on lap four and battling with Owen Jenner for second place.
Both held second place over the next few laps and were exchanging the position at every corner.
Jenner crossed the finish line in second place just 83/100ths of a second ahead of Laffins who finished in third place.
Durham made rapid progress through the field and by lap eight he was up to fourth place just behind the battle going on between Laffins and Jenner.
He followed the pair a couple of seconds away from them but couldn’t get in a position to make a pass on them and crossed the finish line in fourth place just over a second behind them.
Team manager Tom Fisher said: “It was such a shame for Jorel to be involved in someone else’s accident.
“Unfortunately it is unlikely that he will be fit to race in the final two rounds and the bike is pretty badly damaged so sadly it looks like the end of the season for him and for us in the Superstock class this year.
“Grateful thanks to the marshals and medics and the medical team who put Jorel’s shoulder back in place.
“But we are really pleased with the performance from the two Junior Superstock riders as they did so well.
“Sam was on the podium in third place and Asher was right behind him in fourth.
“Thanks to our loyal sponsors and supporters for their input, we couldn’t do this without you.
“With the points accrued on Sunday Sam moves up to ninth in the rider standings and Asher remains in third place but closes the gap to the championship leader to 22 points.”
The penultimate round of the Junior Superstock championship is at Donington Park over the weekend of September 29 to October 1.
