Courts order five Spalding shops to close

Five Spalding shops, including three in Winsover Road, have been ordered to close for selling illegal cigarettes and vapes.

Baltic, Warsaw and European Food Store on Winsover Road, plus Maramures Express on Commercial Road and Euro Star New Road have all been the subject of closure orders at Lincoln Magistrates yesterday (Thursday February 15) and Wednesday.

The charges say the closure orders are due to ‘nuisance and disorder’ with Lincolnshire Police confirming they have been closed due to the ‘persistent sale of illegal cigarettes and vapes’.

The owner of Maramures Express has contested the charge, police told The Voice, but it will remain closed until a hearing is due to take place next Friday (February 23).

Posters on the sides of the Winsover Road shops state: ”This business has been closed by court order due to persons engaging in criminal activity on the premises.”

The closure order notices on the doors indicate the closures to be for three months.

The notices state: “The court has considered a closure order issued by a constable on the grounds that a person has engaged in anti-social behaviour on the premises and the use of the premises in associated with significant and persistent disorder or persistent serious nuisance to members of the public.”
