An 85-year-old who has been a patient at Munro Medical Centre since he was born in 1933 helped it celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS last week.
Frank Blades (85) and his wife Bernadette (84) have been involved with the West Elloe institution, which moved to new premises in 1996, for many years.
The Cathedral Drive couple were invited by centre staff to cut the cake as they celebrated the NHS’s anniversary last week. Both are now part of the centre’s patient participation group.
“You always get a good service here,” said Frank after the specially made cake had been handed out. “I’m also a carer and we always come to see if we can help other carers.”
Munro Medical Centre itself pre-dates the NHS.
It was set up in 1919 by Dr Munro and plans to celebrates its centenary next year are coming together.
Munro practice partner Dr Graham Wheatley said of the NHS celebrations: “We always have staff training at lunch time on Wednesday, but this time we wanted to celebrate the NHS on its 70th anniversary.
“We have this celebration and we’ve also got a bit of a workshop to see how the NHS has developed, how it will develop in the future and our practices place in that.
“We want to continue delivering improved services to our patients.”
