County hat-trick for Royal Mail Cart after sealing club championship crown

Royal Mail Cart lifted their third county bowls title of the season by winning the county club championship at Long Bennington on Sunday – the second time in three seasons they’ve won the event.

This followed successes in the Challenge Bowl and Cecil Driffill Trophy earlier in the season.

Royal Mail Cart qualified for the event by winning their local EBA league and were playing against the league winners from the other three sections of the county.

In the semi-final, they comfortably beat Horncastle 62-44. The rink skipped by Dominic McVittie, with Julie Allen, John Allen and Pete Horsfield, did the majority of the damage as they picked up a count of seven shots early on and never looked back as they secured a rink win of 27-12.

Royal Mail Cart’s opponents for the final were St Giles, who beat Cleethorpes in the other semi-final.

Mail Cart have a good record against St Giles in this event, though, as they beat them at the last four stage in 2018 and 2019.

St Giles started well and won the first end on every rink, but that is as good as it got for them as Royal Mail Cart showed their class across the green and were soon in front, where they stayed.

As was the case in the semi-final, McVittie’s rink had a fantastic game as they secured a 24-11 rink win to help Royal Mail Cart take the final 59-41.
