County council’s £1m path repairs

Lincolnshire County Council is spending £1m on repairing footpaths across the county.

The summer scheme will see ‘micro asphalt surface treatment – which will be carried out across 77 miles of paths.
The technique will seal the existing path surface, improve the level and the texture of the path and seal it against the ingress of water.
“The work involves applying a thin veneer of material to the existing path surface. The treatment acts as a liquid when first applied, but dries within two hours and is then ready for being used by pedestrians.
“It’s worth knowing that the material can appear unsightly when it’s first laid, but within a few weeks it will bed-in to provide a durable service,” said a council document.
“It’s such a useful method of improvement for bettering paths that one micro asphalt set can prolong the life of a footway by as much as a decade. And it’s cost effective too, with treatment coming in at around a tenth of what it cost fully to rebuild the path.”
The paths will be closed during work and there will be on-site marshals to advise.
“Because the micro asphalt process requires a uniform surface to be successful, we will be undertaking patching works ahead of the new material being put down. This will include shifting back any grass and vegetation obstructing the current path, as well as obstructing the path as well as adjusting levels of the ironworks.”
In South Holland, the works will be carried out at: Penny Hill Road, Holbeach; Edinburgh Walk, Holbeach; and in Spalding: Roman Bank, Crown Drive, Albion Street, West Elloe Avenue (slip road section); Ladywood Road, Pennyhill Close; Chiltern Drive, Pennine Way, Park Road, Fairview Way, Vernatts Green, Fairfield Close, Lilburn Drive, Hawthorn Bank, Spalding and Hemsley Way.
