South Holland District Council says it is to launch a lottery aiming to help local community groups and charities.
The authority initially announced the proposal in September 2020 with 60 per cent of takings going to the good causes that sign up, the rest going to the running of the competition.
Since then it’s gone into partnership with Boston and East Lindsey and they too are now involved.
A spokesman for the South and East Lincolnshire Partnership said: “The lottery will raise extra funding for local community-based initiatives across the sub-region.
“Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service will support the Partnership with the new lottery scheme by encouraging charities and community groups to apply to join, with a weekly draw set to take place every Saturday to give residents the chance to win.”
Tickets are set to cost £1 per entry with prizes spanning from free tickets for a future draw, through to a jackpot of £25,000.
Winners will also have the opportunity to donate their winnings to the good cause they are supporting.
Local groups and good causes will be able to join the scheme for free, using a an online form with 60 per cent of the proceeds going directly to those causes taking part and the remaining funds used to cover the costs of running the scheme.
Coun Gary Taylor, South Holland District Council portfolio holder for communities and facilities, welcomed the new scheme: “It is fantastic for us to be able to fulfil this long-term ambition to create this new lottery scheme in South and East Lincolnshire, where both the proceeds and winnings will go directly to our local causes and residents, having a real impact to the daily lives of our residents.
“There are so many incredible community groups, charities and organisations in our local area, and it will be exciting to see the difference this scheme and its players can make to help and support their causes.”
David Fannin, chief executive of Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service said: “This new initiative by the South and East Councils Partnership is a really exciting move for the area, and the net proceeds will bring vitally needed funding to an array of local causes, charities and community groups when the lottery gets underway later this year. Lincolnshire CVS will help to ensure that this goes to where it is most needed and can do the most good.”
The district council says more information will be announced over the next few months
