Councillor’s call for area’s share

Some of the £262m funding being given to Lincolnshire should go on repairing potholes on the A16 and A17 through South Holland, a councillor has claimed.

Coun Bryan Alcock asked South Holland District Council leader Nick Worth if he’d lobby Lincolnshire County Council to ensure funds are spent in the district.
The money has been allocated by central government to Lincolnshire for transport links after previously having been proposed to be spent on the now cancelled part of the HS2 railway line.
“The potholes on the A16 and A17 are becoming worse and worse,” Coun Alcock said. “People are dodging all over the place to miss them.
“I appreciate the council is doing its level best to keep up with filling them in, but it’s a constant job.
“It’s patently obvious the surface of the road was not the correct specification when it was laid.
“The section from Crowland to Peterborough which is not under Lincolnshire’s control seems to be wearing better.
“We need to lobby to resurface the road with a proper specification or have sufficient funds and man power to keep the pot holes filled.”
Coun Worth responded: “The awarding of £260m has got to be good news for Lincolnshire. We will be lobbying the county for some of those funds.
“I don’t think we can be specific at the moment but we will be doing everything we can to get our funds for infrastructure and roads, particularly in South Holland.
“I’ve bene on that road between Holbeach and Crowland, and while a fairly large stretch has improved considerably, some of it is still pretty dodgy.
“You’re not sure if you want to be in the middle of the road or the dyke.”
