Councillor looks to put Spalding on a weather map

A Spalding district councillor has made a bid to literally put the town on a map.

Coun Jan Whitbourn has launched a petition to get the area’s local news programme on the BBC to mark Spalding on it weather map.

She said she’s doing so after speaking to local residents.

“It’s been a long year and I get all kinds of requests from constituents on a daily basis and while most of what we do is pretty serious this request has came in a few times now,” Coun Whitbourn said. “They always manage to have Boston and Bourne displayed on the map, so why can’t they list Spalding given that our town is considerably better than Boston? Maybe they can come and do a live broadcast so we can show them how much better Spalding actually is?”

Conservative councillor Whitbourn said she has made a resolution for the New Year to try to promote Spalding in a more positive light.

Jan said: “I think in recent weeks and months, it has been disheartening to see some comments and articles talking the town down.

“With Sir John Hayes MP recently securing millions of pounds of funding to try and attract new businesses to our community, now we need people to talk the town up!

“Nobody is going to want to come here if they only see negative headlines.

“In addition to wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I hope everyone will also adopt my resolution to talk up the town and hopefully with the help of Government funding, we can see a further revival of our town in the coming weeks and months.”
