Council will recover European Election costs

South Holland District Council will be able to claim back up to just under £130,000 of how much it costs the authority to fund polling stations and the local count for Thursday’s European Elections.

There are 62 polling stations open, 14 more than in the district council election earlier this month.

This is due to four of the wards in the district council election not being contested.

Candidates for the European Elections are being voted for locally to represent the East Midlands region, at least until Britain leaves the European Union.

SHDC will initially cover the cost of hosting the election locally, but they will be able to claim back up to £129,598.

The Voice asked the council how much it was budgeting towards how much elections would cost to hold locally, but the authority’s lead electoral officer, Deborah Wright said: “No actual costs are available at this time.”
