Council surveying South Holland residents on garden waste collection service

A garden waste collection service is being considered for South Holland.

The district council is asking residents whether they would be willing to pay £2 per collection.
For those that would, they are also being asked whether they would prefer to use a compostable sack or a reusable bin.

The council says the service is being considered as a way to make it easier and more convenient for residents to recycle their garden waste.

Coun Roger Gambba-Jones, portfolio holder for waste management and green spaces, said: “As well as giving us the opportunity to increase the amount of waste we recycle, we are confident a garden waste collection service would be welcomed because of its convenience and reliability.
“The service would pay for itself through a charge so that taxpayers who don’t want or need to use it aren’t paying a subsidy. The service will be great value through reducing fuel costs to residents and the sheer convenience of not having to travel to and from the West Marsh Road waste site.”

The council’s waste and recycling anticipates that many households could benefit from using the new service.
A freepost postcard survey of all households in South Holland is under way to find out how many residents are interested.
Alternatively the survey can be completed online at www.sholland.gov.uk/garden wastecollectionsurvey

Coun Gambba-Jones added: “Setting up a new garden waste service requires investment in new vehicles and extra crew, which is why we are asking residents to tell us what they think and whether they will use it.”
