Council leader’s disappointment over district being placed in tier three

Council leader Lord Gary Porter has expressed extreme disappointment with today’s Government announcement that South Holland will face the toughest restrictions when the national lockdown is lifted next Wednesday.

The Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced on Thursday morning that Lincolnshire as a whole will be placed in Tier 3.

Despite the restrictions, which will see a return to the rule of six and hospitality venues including pubs and restaurants only allowed to offer a takeaway service, South Holland District Council is urging residents to continue to pull together as a community and follow the basic advice of hands, face, space.

Lord Porter said: “It’s disappointing the Government has placed South Holland into Tier 3 despite below average indicators and the fact that Peterborough has been placed in Tier 2 which borders our district. This shows a lack of nuanced thinking from the Government.

“While this is disappointing news, especially for our businesses in the pub and restaurant sectors who were relying on Christmas trade, now is the time to come together as a community and let’s get out of these restrictions as soon as we can. So, please: continue to look after one another, continue to listen to advice and keep safe.”

Government will review the restrictions placed on South Holland every fortnight following the lifting of lockdown next Wednesday.
