The consultation into controversial plans to turn Spalding’s former Post 16 Centre into a facility for those excluded from other schools has been extended to the end of the year.
Wellspring Academy Trust is looking to create the Springwell Alternative Academy on Matmore Gate for children who are out of school due to being challenging or vulnerable.
The consultation was due to end this Friday, December 15, but will now conclude on December 31.
It comes after the Trust held a meeting in Spalding on Thursday, 7 December.
Objections to the proposals include concerns over traffic on Matmore Gate.
In a letter following last Thursday’s meeting, Ken and Ruth Bicknell, said: “While the building itself may be highly desired by Springwell the location in Matmore Gate is disastrous traffic-wise and being in very close proximity to a large waterway and easy access across to the dangerous A16 road.”
Last Wednesday South Holland District Council’s planning committee gave permission for the Trust to build a Multi Use Gaming Area in the site’s car park that would be used primarily by the students between 8.45am and 2.45pm.
A petition with 124 signatures had been raised opposing its creation.
