Concerns that first impressions of Spalding are rubbish

A Spalding resident says she has had enough of residents and fly-tippers who have “no thought for the town”, leaving rubbish in streets.

Jackie Allen, of Victoria Mews, says rubbish being left on the surrounding streets and fly-tipping around Victoria Street Car Park leaves visitors to Spalding with a poor first impression of the town.

Jackie told The Voice: “I’ve had to put fly tipping forms in to the council virtually every week due to residents in this town putting out their rubbish on the wrong day.

“Sometimes black bin bags appear on the street just hours after the bin men have been.

“Last week fly-tippers took the biscuit by dumping a sofa on the pavement.

“It’s heartbreaking every day to see rubbish, especially if you are visiting Spalding and park in Victoria Street, what you currently see is rubbish along the street.

“These people have no remorse, no thought for this town, no pride in it, but most of all, there is no consequence from our council.”

Jackie says the council has told her it has been through bin bags looking for clues as to who is responsible for leaving the litter on the streets, but has found no evidence.

A South Holland District Council spokesman said: “We received a report of litter in the area and street cleaning operatives visited.

“We cleared up the litter that we could get to however, some of it was on private property behind barbed wire. The area has not been subject to any changes over the Christmas and New Year period.

“We would ask any residents with any concerns to contact us with information at www.sholland.gov.uk/reportit
