Concern over paths backlog

It’s been claimed Lincolnshire County Council is the worst performing in terms of dealing with issues of public rights of way.

Coun Neil Murray raised the backlog of instances at a meeting of the council.
He said they were the worst performing council.
Coun Richard Davies confirmed there was a backlog but said it was national and ‘it’s not unsurprising Lincolnshire is behind the curve because we have so many footpaths’.
“Very often these cases are extremely lengthy and time consuming,” he said. “As much as I’d like to say we can accelerate the process, we can’t and there is a long backlog.
“Some individuals generate dozens, if not hundreds, of requests.
“We only have a small team. We could put people on it, but if you look at the relatively small number of people in favour of some applications, I’m not sure I’d want to take people away from filling potholes or fixing street lights.”
