Community Speed Watch gets first green flag

The first community speed watch volunteers are set to take to the streets.

Villages and towns are a step closer to having their roads monitored by safety conscious volunteers thanks to the first Community Speed Watch Training Day.

The event, held at the Castle Sports Complex, got the first batch of volunteers up to speed with equipment and protocol.

Community Speed Watch Coordinator Jan Whitbourn said the day was a great success. “Many people from different villages attended the event to start on the new initiative to help slow the traffic down in and around South Holland.

“The training lasted an hour and all those people who attended are now ready to begin the voluntary work with the new equipment which is being co-ordinated through their parish councils. There were many questions answered and everyone went away fired up and wanting to get started,” she said.

The next training day takes place at the end of the month and is open to new volunteers.

Jan said: “Our next training day will be on Thursday, August 30 and anyone who is interested in getting involved in slowing down traffic in their village or town need to contact me as soon as they can, it is getting booked up.

“Anyone not on the list on that day will not be able to take part, they will have to wait for the next one, it is filling up fast after today which made massive progress with the members who attended from their community.”
