The community has rallied around families who have lost everything in fires over Christmas including one on New Year’s Day that is thought to have been caused by a stray firework.
Families of those affected have appealed for clothes following the blaze at Hall Gate in Hobeach in the early hours of yesterday (Wednesday, January 1).
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue say they were called ‘shortly after midnight’ to the incident.
A spokesman said: “An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze, initial findings suggest the fire could have been caused by a firework.
“Five fire engines attended.
“No injuries were reported but one house was destroyed by the fire. The first floor and roof of an adjoining property were also damaged.”
Lincolnshire Police say they were called at 12.30am though it’s not clear if further action would be taken.
Many organised New Year’s events were cancelled due to the windy conditions on the night.
The community quickly rallied around to help the families involved.
Emily Ward launched an appeal on Go Fund Me that had raised £6,504 as The Voice went to press this morning.
“My poor brother and his family have lost their entire home due to a firework causing their house to catch fire,” she said.
“They have literally lost everything all they have is the pjs they had on as they escaped the burning building.
“My ten-year-old niece has lost everything she got for Christmas, imagine that as a kid.
“We would appreciate any help to get them some clothes, essentials and help Mollie get some toys.”
The family also appealed for supplies on social media.
Michele Bradley said on Spotted Holbeach: “Thank you for all the clothes, they now have enough.
“Your generosity is amazing,”
Another Go Fund Me was set up by Kane Portass for Jayden Nightingale.
It had raised over £3,000 as of Thursday morning.
“Jayden lost his house in Holbeach and all his belongings to a fire caused by a firework whilst he was away on New Year’s Eve,” the page states.
“He has lost everything he has worked so hard for, any donations would be much appreciated.”
lIt came after another fire in Holbeach destroyed a house in the early hours of Boxing Day (December 26).
Lincolnshire Police are treating that as arson and continuing to investigate.
“If anyone has any information that may help our investigation into this, please contact 101 quoting incident 53 of December 26.
“Fire crews from Long Sutton, Spalding, Kirton and Donington attended the incident and used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels, and three thermal imaging cameras in their response. Police and ambulance also attended the scene.
“One person was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life changing or life threatening.”
