by Coun Gary Taylor – South Holland District Council portfolio holder for community
I’d like to start this column by thanking everyone who attended and helped to organise this year’s Spalding Pumpkin Festival. I’ve already had a lot of feedback from people telling me that this year’s event was the best one ever.
The carnival atmosphere of the Pumpkin parade added a real vibrancy to the event which, as ever, was topped off by a spectacular fireworks display from the top of the South Holland Centre.
That the event went so well is testament to the hard work of the council’s Community Development Team and several volunteers who made sure everything ran smoothly on the night.
I’d also like to thank sponsors David Bowman Pumpkins Ltd and the support we received from the Spalding and Welland Rotary Club, Spalding Lions, Tulip Radio and Transported.
I also recently enjoyed a unique exhibition held at Ayscoughfee Hall, featuring drawings by the famous local antiquarian William Stukeley.
The drawings in question included some South Holland scenes from the 18th century, so it was interesting to see how much certain places have changed.
The exhibition was organised by the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society and I would like to thank them for putting on such a fascinating event.
As autumn draws to an end, we can now look forward and start preparing for winter.
With the onset of colder weather, it can be very tempting to spend an increasing amount of time indoors.
We’re keen to encourage people to get out and about as much as possible, so look out for events across the district being promoted over the coming weeks.
