COLUMN: Food Festival will be great weekend

If you have read my column over the last two months you will be aware that the Spalding and South Holland Festival of Food and Drink is taking place on August 29 and 30 in the various car parks and spaces surrounding the South Holland District Council offices in Priory Road.

I make no apologies for reminding you of this key town event and would like to encourage you and your family to attend.

With 50 stalls booked in, 40 of which are food stalls, including a real ale bar, traditional ciders and a fun fair, musical entertainment and other activities for the children, it has the makings of a great day and with a ticket price of only £3 (under 16s go free provided they are accompanied by a paying adult), it’s got to be good value for money!

The central location also means that you can do your shopping, perhaps catch a film at the South Holland Centre and if you are still hungry have a meal out in the evening. See the festival website at www.spaldingfoodfestival.co.uk for details of the festival and meal deals around the town.

And don’t forget to buy a ticket for the chance to win a new Hyundai i10 in time for Christmas. You will also be helping to raise money for the League of Friends for Spalding Hospitals; tickets cost £2 and will be on sale during the food festival and at other locations throughout the town.

The draw for the car will take place on the Christmas Lights Switch on event, on Saturday, November 14.

Sunday, September 20 sees the return of the Italian Market to the Sheep Market.

The market manager was very impressed with the reception they received back in April and wants to make Spalding a twice yearly visit.

I had some really positive feedback from people, who said the quality and variety of foodstuffs on offer was excellent and when could we have them back again.

The SHDC organised Pumpkin Festival is on Friday, October 9 and I know it is planned to have a range of stalls and attractions similar to last year, so it will be another really good family occasion.

I know it’s only August, but we are already planning the Christmas Market which will be held on Sunday, November 29, and we are expecting a good number and mix of stalls, as well as musical and other attractions.

Have a great summer holiday and hope to see you at the food festival.
