Coin model of All Saints’ Church

Holbeach Flower Festival takes place at All Saints’ Church from today (Thursday) until Monday and visitors will be able to see a very special model of the church.

A 2ft long wooden model was made to scale by former church warden David Duncan and verger Clare Stupples has spent the past year building it up with 5p coins to represent the stonework and 1p coins to represent the windows, doors and roof.

After much research she discovered the best “glue” to keep the coins in place is cheap lager and so she soaked all the coins before putting them in place and waiting for them to set.

Festival visitors can pay 50p to guess the value of the model. Sadly the only way to calculate its value will be to demolish it and add up all the coins.

The coins and entrance fees, less ten per cent prize money for the winner’s chosen charity, will go towards church funds.
