Coffee firm AIs up Spalding land

A new company that says it’s looking to create AI (Artificial Intelligence) led coffee drive-thrus is looking to build one on vacant Spalding land.

Bocca Felice has applied for planning permission for an outlet and an ‘Intelijet’ drive-thru car wash on the land off Kings Road, near Stepping Stone Bridge and the entrance to Sainsbury’s.

The site would also have electric car charging points if approved.

Documents submitted with the application to South Holland District Council state the land is a ‘non maintained surplus car park owned by the council’.

All Bocca Felice’s website says is that ‘something new is coming’.

“We’ve begun work on perfecting becoming the new standards in coffee retailing,” the site reads with no other information.

In an article published by AV Magazine earlier this year, Bocca said it hopes to have 22 sites open by the end of 2025 rising to 80 in 2026.

The magazine says that using AI, those behind Bocca hope to have machines capable of serving 350 coffees an hour with a rate of 98 per cent accuracy.

The use of AI is not mentioned in the documents submitted to the district council requesting permission.

One says: “The proposed drive-thru will provide a much-needed food/drink service for the surrounding area while also providing employment opportunities and will develop a site that is at present vacant.

“The proposal will make a positive contribution towards the redevelopment and regeneration of this area.”
