Coach Callum salutes ‘great’ South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club showing

South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club returned home with a host of medals as they shone at the Northampton SC Summer Festival Open meet.

Held at the Corby international pool, the event served to provide the team of 14 swimmers a chance to compete at a long course event before the end of the season.

With 14 other clubs attending, it was an undeniably tough event for the Spalding-based club.

The opening race saw Esther Skells (13) win her first heat, the 200m backstroke. She then went on to get six personal best (PB) times.

With Daisy Rummerys (13) showing beautiful backstroke technique, she also came seventh in both the 200m and 50m.

For three swimmers – Beatrice Finch (11), Nitesh Anbazhagen (11) and Oliver Sorrell (10) – it was their first long course meet. Sorrell proudly went on to gain four fifth place medals.

With an excellent performance, Emma Croker (12) won gold, beating 34 girls in the 50m free. She also added silver in the 50m back.

Meanwhile, Luke Blanchard (16) achieved 12 PBs and got gold for 100m breaststroke, with Colin O’Reilly (18) getting the silver.

Blanchard also won silver for 200m breaststroke.

Mollie Briggs (12) also put in a strong swim to gain her fourth place in 100m fly.

Ellisha Cookson (13), Dusty Saines (13), Aurinija Maliauskaite (13), Andre Ubaviciute (13) and Edward Skells all achieved PBs too.

Head coach: Callum Lawson: “The swimmers delivered a great set of results over the weekend – and what pleased me the most was that many of the swimmers are now delivering the skills that we have been working on all season.

“When these skills are delivered swimmers can race faster and more relaxed – it’s fantastic seeing this put into the pressure of a racing environment.

“This was a nice, friendly close to our competitive season and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all swimmers, parents, team managers, coaches and officials that have helped the swimmers all through the season.”

All at South Lincs would like to offer special thanks to the officials of the club – Reshma Cookson, Neil Walker, Caroline Sorrell, Clyde Finch and Sam Blanchard – as without their support events like this cannot go ahead.
