Clitheroe is the Holbeach United cup king with a deadly double

Two-goal Jake Clitheroe took the plaudits as Holbeach United booked their place in the last eight of the ChromaSport UCL Knockout Cup.

The Tigers picked up an impressive 2-1 win at fellow UCL Premier Division high-fliers Kirby Muxloe, meaning they face either Long Buckby/Northampton Sileby Rangers or Boston Town/Potton United in the quarter-finals.

Clitheroe, playing in his preferred central strike role, notched on 27 and 52 minutes at Ratby Lane, either side of Pradeep Bahrey’s 41st minute leveller.

Clitheroe’s goals were both well-taken, with the first a clever low finish and the second coming after great combination play with Lee Beeson.

Holbeach assistant boss Tom Roberts is happy to see the forward scoring so freely – and was also impressed to see his side win without key trio Stacy Cartwright, Andrew Tidswell and Gary King.

“It was a very good win for us,” said Roberts. “It looks an even better one on paper with us missing those three.

“You can see why Kirby Muxloe are up there in the table, they are a top team.

“But I thought we won pretty comfortably in the end.

“It’s great to see Jake finding his form. He’s been wanting to play through the middle and has been patient.

“Now he’s playing there, he’s really taken his chance.”

Tigers: Drury, Worthington, Ward, Jackson, Stevens, Warfield, Gale, Pinner (Dougill), Beeson, Clitheroe, Thomas (Ford).

Attendance: 41.
