Clitheroe fires Holbeach United to win, Rodney strike secures Spalding United a draw

Jake Clitheroe’s first goal of the season earned Holbeach United a 1-0 ChromaSport UCL Premier Division win at Harborough Town on Saturday, while Nialle Rodney’s debut strike secured Spalding United a 1-1 draw at Market Drayton Town in Evo-Stik League First Division South.

Starting with the Tigers, winger Clitheroe struck the only goal mid-way through the first half to make it 11 games unbeaten in all competitions and elevate Darren Jarvis’ side up to fourth in the table.

Holbeach rode their luck against their mid-table hosts, but held on to make it five wins from seven league matches. They are now three points behind leaders Kirby Muxloe.

It’s Boston Town away next for the Tigers on Tuesday in the Lincs FA Senior Trophy (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Rodney’s maiden goal earned Spalding a very decent draw at Market Drayton. Scott Ryan (13) fired the hosts ahead, but ex-Nottingham Forest hitman Rodney replied on the stroke of half time to restore parity.

It’s now three stalemates on the road for the Tulips in Evo-Stik League First Division South and they move up to seventh in the standings ahead of Tuesday’s trip to ninth-placed Basford United (7.45pm).

In the ChromaSport Peterborough League, Pinchbeck United earned a 1-0 victory at Leverington Sports to jump up to eighth in the table – just four points off table-toppers Peterborough Sports Reserves.

Three points above Pinchbeck are Holbeach United Reserves after they won 2-1 at Sawtry to climb up to third place.

Down in Division One, Sutton Bridge United continued their fine form with a 5-3 success at ICA Sports Reserves. They are fourth, five points behind leaders Stamford Lions.

There was also a morale-boosting victory for Long Sutton Athletic, won edged out hosts Netherton United Reserves 2-1.

Also victorious were Spalding United Reserves, who won 2-0 at home against Kings Cliffe, and Moulton Harrox Reserves, who romped to a 6-0 Broad Lane win over Stamford Belvedere to break their duck for the season.
