Cleethorpes put skids on Spalding United’s winning run with second-half double on New Year’s Day

Spalding United were edged out 2-1 by hosts Cleethorpes Town in a close Evo-Stik NPL First Division South derby on New Year’s Day.

Midfielder Conor Marshall fired the Tulips ahead on 18 minutes as they looked set to make it three wins on the spin.

However, a cracker from Luke Aldrich and a late header from Danny North ensured that Cleethorpes completed a league double over Chris Rawlinson’s side.

Despite the defeat, Spalding remain 13th in the table ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield FC.

More to follow.
