Civic society issues fresh objection comment on Spalding takeaway plan

Spalding and District Civic Society has replaced its original comment on a planning application for a takeaway to be established in New Road, Spalding, after it emerged that a mistake had been made.

As reported in the January 21 edition of The Voice, the society objects to the plan by premises landlord The Trustees of the Frances Blane Settlement.

The new comment to South Holland District Council reads: “We find the proposed change of use for the former Welec shop from A1 (retail) to A5 (takeaway) completely unacceptable.

“The area is already saturated with takeaways and other late-night eating opportunities, and another one would be contrary to the existing Local Plan on cumulative impact (Policy EC10).
“It is also contrary to the emerging local planning policy to prevent gaps in retail frontage, especially as it involves the bricking up of one of the shop windows.”
