Cities of the world theme for carnival

Carnival 003London, Paris, Milan – expect to see them all represented at Pinchbeck Carnival 2014.

The theme for this year’s event is Cities of the World and a number of local groups and organisations will be showing off their handiwork on colourful floats reflecting the theme.

The carnival parade will start from Wimberley Way at noon and will be the highlight of a whole weekend of events in the village.

The fun starts tomorrow night (Friday) with a bingo session in the marquee at Rotten Row playing field – home to the weekend’s festivities.

Doors open at 6.30pm, eyes down at 7pm, and there will be a licenced bar.

On Saturday, the parade will wind its way through the streets, taking in Rotten Row, Brownlow Crescent, Bear Lane and Knight Street, accompanied by the Breaston Highlanders and led by the Carnival Queen Annabel Stockdale and Princesses Cecelia Tulloch-Cotton and Emily Van Der Weyden.

Once it arrives at the playing field, at about 12.45pm, there will be an afternoon of fun hosted by Tulip Radio, including a fancy dress competition, crafts, rides, stalls, Mid-Wales Axemen, Kesteven Morris Dancers, Abbey High Flyers, Spalding School of Dance, Mel’s Zumba and an onion rolling contest.

There will also be a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hurricane flypast.

Jan Whitbourn, of Tulip Radio, said: “Pinchbeck Carnival is a wonderful show and always fun packed with great things to do all day, lots of see and plenty of activity on the field, a must to come and spend the day at.”

Admission is £3 for adults and £1.50 for children.

From 6pm, the field is turned over to Party in the Park, with music from local band Bad to the Bone.

The weekend is rounded off on Sunday with a combined church service in the marquee from 10.30am, followed by a Sunday lunch. Tickets for lunch cost £7.50 in advance from carnival chairman Chris Schofield on 01775 680444.
