‘Circle of death’ to be gone by April?

It’s been claimed benches branded a ‘circle of death’ could be gone by April with a consultation on street scenery in three parts of Spalding due to launch.

The meeting of Spalding Town Forum on Tuesday night was told that plans for Hall Place, Red Lion Street and the riverside would be revealed this week.
It includes possible solutions for the benches in Hall Place frequently cited as a centre for anti-social behaviour.
The meeting heard £280,000 had been allocated for the public realm improvements.
“It’s focussed on new seating, planters, bins, lighting and replanting of trees,” said Matthew Hogan, the council’s assistant director for strategic growth and development.
“There’s choices around Hall Place in terms of the seating going forward.
“It will include a planting scheme designed to give an all year round kind of colour.”
Coun James Le Sage branded the Hall Place seats ‘the circle of death’.
“I think it needs revamping, green spaces and vastly improved seating. We need to deal with the anti-social behaviour in town.”
Coun Jan Whitbourn asked how long before it could happen.
“We’re hoping pretty quickly,” responded Mr Hogan. “We’ll have the consultation and once we have the background we have the contractor and consent lined up. My ambitions are this will be this financial year.”
