Christmas trees can be recycled

It may be a few days away, but if you are wondering what to do with your Christmas tree when twelfth night arrives, then don’t worry.

South Holland District Council is offering a free collection service for residents who  already subscribe to the  garden waste service.

Residents who are not using the service can still have their trees collected for a £10 one-off fee and people need to be registered by Monday, January 7.

The collection of festive trees runs from January 14 to January 23 and will be separate from the usual garden waste collection.

The trees need to be under eight feet high and have no decorations, pots or stands with them. Residents can leave them at the usual collection point.

“It is important that we put our waste to the best use possible, and the festive period is particularly busy time to ensure we can, whether it’s food packaging, decorations or indeed Christmas trees,” said Coun Roger Gambba-Jones, portfolio holder for place.

“This scheme is a great chance for residents to dispose of their trees in a convenient and environmentally friendly way, and also another perk of our ever-popular garden waste scheme.

“It would be brilliant to get as many households signed up as we can over the next month, and to ensure that every spruce is put to good use,” he added.
Collections can only be booked and paid for in advance online. To register for the scheme, see www.
sholland.gov.uk/gardenwaste befor January 7.

If your rubbish or recycling is due to be collected on Tuesday, December 25, it has been changed to Saturday, December 29.

The Wednesday (Boxing Day) collections, will now be on Wednesday, January 2 and for New Year’s Day, the collection will be Tuesday, January 8.

There will be no collection of garden waste by South Holland District Council from Monday, December 24 to Friday, January 18 and collections start again on Monday, January 21.
