Christmas time fun in Spalding town centre

A special event around The Crescent on Friday, a flower parade winter wonderland and a Santa Fun Run on Sunday are among the Christmas themed events taking place in Spalding this weekend.

Spalding Town Forum, alongside South Holland District Council, is putting on the new Crescent Christmas Spectacular in the town centre street tomorrow night (Friday, December 6).
The road will be closed for stalls and entertainment from 5pm to 7pm.
The Spalding Community Choir and a brass band will be playing, and extra stalls brought into the street, plus a host of food and drink will be on offer.
All of the shops on the street will be opening late including Bookmark which has the honour of hosting Santa.
The following day (Saturday) the festive attention will turn to Ayscoughfee Hall where those raising money for the Spalding Flower Parade are putting on a Winter Wonderland.
A spokesman said: “From 12pm to 6pm, come and spend the day with friends and family, you can enjoy Christmas gifts, visit Santa’s grotto, play family games, watch the performance of local choirs singing plus take part in a magical elf trail with hidden treasures and lots more fun-filled activities.”
Ayscoughfee Hall is hosting treats throughout the festive period including Santa’s Grotto from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday, December 14, and keep an eyes out on its social media for an advent trail.
The Chairman’s Santa Fun Run takes place in Spalding from 9.30am this Sunday.
It will leave from the Castle Sports Centre and involve two loops around the town centre for a 4.5k course.
All are welcome to attempt even just a part of the event at their own pace as part of the fundraiser for the chairman of South Holland District Council, Coun Andrew Woolf’s chosen charities of Blood Cancer UK and the Spalding branch of Mencap.
Entry is £5 and those attending are encouraged to dress as festively as possible.
The event is being put on in partnership with the Halmer Harriers Running Club and spectators are encouraged to pop down.
Coun Woolf said: “It should be a fantastic day and I’m looking forward to the sight of so many people dressed up in festive costume running through the town centre on Sunday morning.”
Also, panto season is back (oh yes it is).
Snow White opens for the first of 40 shows at the South Holland Centre on Saturday.
The cast includes Lauren Fielding as Snow White, AJ Adams as Muddles, Kerry Maskell as the Wicked Queen and more.
Joanne Mackel, manager of the South Holland Centre, said: “I am very excited that the South Holland Centre is offering so many performances of Snow White throughout December.”
Tickets for the show cost from £15.50 to £17 and available at www.southhollandcentre.co.uk
