Christmas meals with no charges

Free Christmas lunches will be on offer at two locations in Spalding and Holbeach.

The Holbeach Community Cafe still has tickets left for its lunch in the Reading Rooms.

Organisers are stressing that tickets will be given regardless of financial need as loneliness is the key factor.

The lunch will be free of charge for those who attend although donations would be welcome, but not required.

The cafe is also happy to accept both monetary donations and donations of food and festive items towards the lunch.

If you are able to contribute, contact Linda Beverley-Stone on 01406 259496.

In Spalding, the Westlode Fisheries is offering free lunch on December 25.

The shop will give a free fish and chip meal with a hot drink and mince pie between 1pm and 3pm to the homeless, vulnerable or the elderly.

A family-run business led by Fardous Ali, husband Sajid and her four brothers, Westlode Fisheries has been trading for a year and is looking to celebrate with the community.

“Although it’s our second Christmas here, it took nine months to renovate the shop so we weren’t open last year,” said Mrs Ali.

“We want to give something back to the community and make sure no-one misses out on Christmas dinner. It’s a special day,” she said.

A former teacher, Miss Ali said the business had proved popular over the last year and had been well-supported.

“It has gone well since we opened,” she said.

People are invited to drop-in to the shop between 1pm and 3pm.

“Everyone should have a hot meal to go and watch the Queen’s speech,” said Mrs Ali.

She added that ten per cent of the takings on Sunday, December 24, would also go to a local charity.

“We will be open on the Sunday from 3pm to 9pm.”
