Choirs hit the right notes

Three choirs wowed the judges as the Spalding Rotary Club held its annual ‘Let’s Sing’ competition.

Singers from Holbeach Primary School, Act II Theatre Group and St Norbert’s Catholic Primary School (pictured above) took part in the competition to win £200.

All three choirs gave local musical experts Christine Bozwood-Davies and Zeph Churchill a tough decision.

Act II made an immediate impact on their debut in the competition singing a punchy version of Rachel Platten’s ‘Fight Song’ and ‘I’m a Believer’.

The group’s Karl Gernert accompanied them on keyboards as he did with Holbeach Primary School.
It was only formed a couple of months ago by Abbie Linder but sung rousing renditions of ‘Count On Me’ followed by Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’.

Act II

Last year’s winners St Norbert’s Catholic Primary School, accompanied by musical director Paul Gilbert sang ‘Sing’ and ‘Hero is my Middle Name’.

A spokesman for the judges said: “Act II sang well, supporting each other with some lovely vocals and strong voices.

“It was particularly lovely to see that each Holbeach child had an opportunity to sing some solo lines, and for a small, newly-formed choir, they did very well.

“St Norbert’s were very confident with, very good vocals and a lovely stage presence.”

After a nail-biting 15 minutes, it was announced that St Norbert’s had won, with particular praise for ‘Hero is my Middle Name’, which they performed as an encore.

Club president Graham Dawson said: “We love to host events that help young people thrive. The evening was a great success and we received many positive comments from parents.”
