Spalding swimming sensation Chloe Hannam won a full set of medals at the second week of the British Gas ASA National Championships in Sheffield.

The multi-talented 17-year-old all-rounder, who was representing City of Peterborough Swimming Club (COPS), returned home to South Holland with a gold, silver and bronze medal – as well as a new Eastern region senior record.

Hannam’s medal spree kicked off on the second day of competition when she took the silver by finishing second in the 800m freestyle.

She went one better on day four of the event, winning the 200m backstroke in a sensational new Eastern region record time.

Not done there, she completed a dazzling display by bagging the bronze medal in the 400m freestyle final.

Former South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club member Hannam also qualified for the 200m individual medley final, where she just missed out on another medal by finishing fifth in a new personal best time.

COPS head coach Ben Negus couldn’t hide his delight at Hannam’s display – and revealed that her 200m backstroke display now puts her in the top 30 in Europe.

He said: “I am delighted for Chloe and her performances in her last full season with COPS. She deserves to be national champion on the 200m backstroke as she has worked for that over the last two years.

“Her time also puts her in the top 30 in Europe and the top 50 in the world.

“She’s earned that and I am sure with her scholarship in the States she will only go on to better things.”
