Children learn to be green

waste and recycling teamPre-school children in Long Sutton and parents in Sutton Bridge learned more about recycling from district council staff.

South Holland’s waste and recycling team dropped in to Rainbow Day Nursery first.

Officer Laura Simpkins said: “There were a few gasps from the children when they realised 25 plastic bottles could be recycled into a fleece.

“We also talked about why to recycle, which is of course to save the world!”

A craft activity included a bin lorry picture being made from recyclable items such as foil, plastic bags, paper and cardboard.

Laura added: “It was fantastic to see how involved the children were and great to see them excited about recycling.”

The team was also out in force at Sutton Bridge Children’s Centre, talking to parents about what to recycle, contamination issues and discussing about how they thought the council could improve the recycling service in the area.

Any school, nursery or community group which thinks it could benefit from a recycling refresher session should contact Laura on 01775 761161.

The waste and recycling team will be on Spalding market on Tuesday (July 15) where there’s an opportunity for residents to name the Green Bag Lottery mascot.
