An award-winning daffodil grower treated members of Spalding U3A to an entertaining speech at their August monthly meeting.
Johnny Walkers from Taylors Bulbs spoke about the meticulous work put into preparing daffodil bulbs so they are flowering ready for the Chelsea Flower Show in May.
At this year’s Chelsea Show, Johnny’s display was awarded a Gold Medal – his 25th at the awards such achieved and a testament to the skill needed to maintain this high standard.
The group was reminded that the UK grows more daffodil bulbs than the rest of the world put together.
This includes around 1,000 acres of daffodils grown for their galantamine, a chemical used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
