Charity show proves a big hit

As Frankie Valli once sang: ‘Oh What a Night’ put on by the Spalding and Welland Rotary Club last week.

For the last 30 years the charity has looked to hold a fundraising gig for local charities at the South Holland Centre.

The club’s long-time professional supporters Tracie Hughes and Jennifer Bentley from an act known on many cruise ships as Spellbound, set up an evening of magic comedy, music, song and dance.

This ranged from a local talented vocalist Dilara Greene, from Crowland, who sang ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables, to a top-class Abba tribute ‘Anthems’. There was also great music from Spalding Folk Club and a trio from the Bourne area known as Nick, Kevin and Tim.

There was also hilarious and magical entertainment from Richie Austin and impressive illusions from Dave Odeeni, both of whom are members of the Magic Circle and are busy touring the country and entertaining on cruise ships.

Jo Shields performed a very polished series of dance routines and song, backed by her Frampton Dancers.

Rotarian John Ralph, who organised the event said: “We had many compliments from members of the audience who said that this was the best show ever, and they left at the end of the evening buzzing with excitement.”

As a taster for upcoming events, John added: “We are intending at next year’s concert to search out more local entertainers to showcase their talent alongside our professionals so look out for this.

“If you are a performer and want to have a chance to display your talent in a professional production, watch out for our audition advertising later in the year!”
