Charity offers Ritz style Mother’s Day afternoon tea

The Pennygate Foundation is promising a taste of The Ritz this Mother’s Day (Sunday, March 11).

Every year since its inception the Spalding community drop-in centre has held a special event to celebrate local mothers.

This year is no exception as its doors open from 2pm to 4pm for a fantastic afternoon tea experience from just £5 per person.

Brenda Wickham, one of the volunteers at The Pennygate Foundation, said: “It’s like tea at The Ritz but without the costly price tag.

“We look to decorate the room really nice, have a wonderful selection of food and drink, waitress service and just try and make it really special.

“Just because it’s a cheaper price it does not mean it’s not good quality food.

“It’s very good quality, but as we’re run by volunteers all of the money goes on to the food.”

The tea will include an impressive selection of sandwiches and savouries.

A host of homemade scones, cakes, pastries, jams and creams will provide the perfect treat for anyone.

Brenda continued: “Mother’s Day is one of the highlights of the year and we try and do many special events.

“We try to provide a restaurant experience at all times but we really go out to make events like this special.

“Hopefully we’ll see plenty of people at Pennygate for a fantastic Mother’s Day which will make your mum feel special.”
