Charity launches ‘Vitals for Veterans’ packages

Age Concern UK Lincoln and South Lincolnshire have launched a new ‘Vitals for Veterans’ scheme.

Funding from the Armed Forces Covenant is aiming to deliver 1,800 packs free of charge, to veterans in need of some support.

The packs will contain essential items such as tea, toilet roll, hand soap, biscuits, and other food items as well as a few pick-me-up items such as Forget-Me-Not seeds.

The group’s CEO Michele Jolly said: “As a veteran myself I am extremely proud to have launched this project and for it to be supported by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund. Veterans should not be forgotten and we are delighted to be able to offer these free wellbeing packs, which we hope to spread far and wide across Lincoln and South Lincolnshire.

“The recent pandemic has highlighted what it feels like to be lonely and isolated. For many older people this was their reality before and during COVID-19 and it will continue to be so afterwards.

“The focus of this project is on delivering a pack for the veterans in our area and perhaps also helping to tackle loneliness, through interaction with the volunteers who will deliver the packages and raise awareness of our charity and the service we can offer.”

Veterans, veterans’ groups, or if you know an older veteran that would appreciate some support, can visit the Age UK Lincoln and South Lincolnshire site www.ageuk.org.uk/lincolnsouthlincolnshire/activities-and-events/vitals-for-veterans or call 03455 564 144.
