A charity’s efforts to bring back a Long Sutton institution have proved so successful it’s bringing it back again for Christmas.
The formerly discontinued Market Auction is back in the town thanks to the hugely popular Men’s Shed group.
The charity, that aims to prevent loneliness in men, used the first event last month to sell wares its members had created in workshops as well as sell other people’s goods on for a small commission.
In the end they made £170 which will go towards the Men’s Shed sessions.
They’re set to bring it back again on Friday, November 29 for a special Christmas auction.
It will start at 10.30am outside Long Sutton’s St Mary’s Parish Church.
Anything to sell would need to be dropped off by 10am that day.
Frank Heinrich-Tiller is the Men’s Shed volunteer behind the auction.
After the passing of his wife Joan, the 71-year-old joined the group a to meet new people and to get out of the house.
He said: “The first Men’s Shed Auction on the last Friday of October provided the Shed with in excess of £170 much needed funding for the charity, which will all be put to very good use at this volunteer led, not for profit charity that provides invaluable services for its members and the local community.
“We look forward to seeing as many as possible at the Christmas auction and you never know, you may just pick up a bargain or two.”
The Men’s Shed is based at Silverwood Nursery and Tea Rooms on Sutton St James Road.
It’s open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 9.30am to 1pm and men of all ages are welcome.
