Cash raised as part of a Macmillan Coffee Morning was among the items stolen as an independent hairdresser was hit by burglars for the sixth time in a year.
Shear Shak on Pinchbeck Road is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, but its staff including Angela Barrand say they feel ‘vulnerable’ after being repeatedly targeted by criminals.
The latest incident came overnight on Monday when thieves forced open the gate, broke a window and took the Macmillan charity box.
Thankfully most of the money from that had been emptied Friday night, but customers had continued to eat the cake and make donations on Friday and Monday.
Thieves also took a quantity of perfumes.
“I came in the morning and as soon as you see the gate’s been forced open, your heart just sinks and you think ‘not again’,” Angela told The Voice.
“We do feel vulnerable.
“You don’t feel safe coming to work and worry about what you’re going to find.
“It’s getting to the point where I don’t like the girls being left on their own.
“I try to arrange so two of the three of us are always in.
“There’s not a lot we can do.
“We could brick up all the windows they break every time but then they would just come in through the door.
“You can’t take the stock home and then they could just try and break into your house.”
Angela also feels disappointed that the police have not been out to the incident.
“They take very little but the damage and effect on my business is considerable,” continued Angela who was forced to cancel appointments following the break in. “It’s the cost of replacing windows and doors as well as any money that’s taken.
“There’s no point claiming on insurance as it’s happening so often the insurance payments would be going up and up.”
Angela was also critical of the police response to the many different items that thieves have taken in recent months.
They include items such as computers, tip jars and products.
“I contacted the police and they said someone may come out in the next two weeks.
“They also asked me if I knew who had done it and if I could take pictures and send it to them.
“It’s like they want me to do their job for them.”
