Chappell is first to cross five-mile line

Spalding Cycle Club’s 10-mile championship has concluded, which just left the five-mile title to be decided.
It also took place on the Pode Hole course but over only a single lap.
Matt Chappell stormed to victory in 11 minutes and five seconds, beating Frazer Wallis by two seconds. Dan Warner rounded out the podium in 11:46.
Dom Brand won the road bike category, matching Warner’s 11:46, 26 seconds up on Gareth Richards.
Evgeniya Brand continued her fantastic season by winning the women’s competition in 12:45, ahead of Samantha Briffett, 14:49.
The final Tuesday night event of the season will be followed by the hill climb competition.
Snowden Field at Crowland will again host the British Cycling Open 800m National Championship, hosted by the Spalding club.
Action gets under way on Saturday at noon.
