Chapman knocks in league’s biggest ever break

The first matches of the new year of the Spalding and District Billiards League saw a big break of the highest standards.

Broadway’s Roxton Chapman (o270) had already hit breaks of 58 and 65 but saw the his game out with a splendid unfinished 266 in his win over Mick Johnson (o70) of Consti.

Chapman’s team mate Gary Norman (o260) had nine breaks, the highest 52 as he defeated Alan Hansard (r70) 200-168.

John Bellerby (r110) beat Steve Singh (o55) 200-172, for Consti as they were defeated 5-2 overall.

The break for Chapman is now the highest ever recorded in the league which he held with a 260 in the 1991-92 season.

This break by all accounts was a sublime effort of “top of the table” play and the league is honoured to have such a player of the highest calibre playing.

High flyers Donington B extended their position at the top by two points as they had a maximum 7-0 win away at Holbeach B. Neil Reynolds (o45), Neil Burton (r70) and Mick Pearl (r30) their winners against Denis Hix (r65), Andy Spearman (r75) and Neil Harvey (r25) respectively.

Reynolds scoring the highest break of 32 on the night.

Pyramid A leapfrog their B team with a 4-3 victory at Gosberton.

John Clapton (r115) took the first for Pyramid with a 200-179 win against Des Forbes (r55).

John Twell (r45) made it 2-0 as he was victor over Marcus Pell (o40) 200-185.

But Shane White (o25) for Gosberton had a good steady game with breaks of 26, 29, 33 and 32 unfinished to beat Oli Player (r30) 200-150.

Pyramid B slip one place down to fourth as they lost 7-0 at home to bottom placed Services.

It was a tight affair though as Maurice Phillipson (r85) lost by 16 to Nigel Cherry (r90) and just two points separated Services’ Phil Spencer (r85) and Phil Cooke (r95) for Pyramid (200-198).

Chris Dunmore (scr) for Services took the final game of the night against Darrell Read (r15) 200-183, giving Services their fourth win of the season.

Holbeach A hosted Donington A and came out 5-2 winners.

Jason Rose (o5) saw off Tony Scully (r35) to put Holbeach 1-0 up.

Donington’s Nigel Brasier (r50) levelled it up with a 200-146 win against John Dawson (r55), but the clash of the captains had Ben Harding (scr) defeat Ben Wrigglesworth (r15) 200-173 to give Holbeach the victory and the aggregate point with an overall margin of just three points.
