A Spalding studio threw open its doors for its Art in the Barns weekend to mark the official opening of its latest extension – a café.
Although a major part of the studio’s conversion took place five years ago Unique Cottage Studios has now added to the gallery with a purpose built café and two additional studios.
The purpose of the weekend was to let visitors see and experience the wide variety of courses and activities on offer and also enjoy some of their delicious homemade soups, cakes and scones.
In addition to the café and main teaching room most of the studios were open including Tony Orvis in Unique Cottage Pottery, Gillian and David Wing of Strawberry Glass, Angela Daymond, Fenland Textiles, Deborah Horsfield demonstrating printing, Lucy Evenden and Anna Morris of Doodles Pottery painting and Katie Smith of Creative Communities with her Caravan Collection of found objects.
Carolyn Goodwin, who is the owner and founder of the studios, said: “The support for the weekend was fantastic. We had over 600 visitors over the two days, including many new faces.
“We are very grateful for all the help received from artists and tutors who gave up their weekend to support us and of course the public for coming.”
The studios are now planning for their next event on May 17 – the annual sheep day – a celebration of wool and its uses.
