Spalding chamber of commerce president Phil Scarlett joins UKIP group to run for South Holland District Council

Phil Scarlett, the president of Spalding and District Area Chamber of Commerce, is standing for UKIP in the forthcoming South Holland District Council elections.
Mr Scarlett, who is a member of Sutton Bridge Parish Council and lives in the town, will stand in that ward.
He will be up against Conservative candidates Vicky Hills and Shirley Giles and sitting ward members Chris Brewis and Michael Booth (both Independent).
A statement by Paul Foyster, chairman of UKIP South Holland and The Deepings, said: “UKIP are pleased to announce that Mr Philip Scarlett, the president of Spalding Chamber of Commerce, has now joined our party.
“Phil has both wide and deep knowledge of business matters in the town, has served and still serves on a number of other local organisations, is already assisting us and our Parliamentary candidate, David Parsons, on commercial and other matters and he will be heading our Spalding Town Policy Unit.
“We are very pleased to welcome him. He will be a valuable member of our team and has been selected to stand for South Holland District Council.”
Mr Scarlett is one of four parish councillors in the UKIP group, the others being Peter Bird (Crowland). John Ley (Tydd St Mary) and Paul Foyster (Holbeach).
