Chairman Brittain win Buster Cup on day past members are remembered

The Buster Cup and John Marsden Cup took place at Spalding Town Tennis Club to remember past members no longer with us.

The three-hour competition involved 12 players and saw club chairman Martin Brittain lift the Buster Cup, presented by club president Peter King, with runner-up Ian Brookes receiving the John Marsden Cup.

John was a treasured member and past secretary of the club and his wife Teresa and daughter Vanessa watched the competition with Mrs Marsden proudly presenting The John Marsden Cup.

Rob Gordon, who helped to organise the competition, took third place .

A raffle raised £179 for The Air Ambulance and British Heart Foundation .

Spectators enjoyed the action, as well as a barbecue and picnic hat followed the tournament.

☐ Spalding Town Tennis Club are hosting a series of Summer Camps at Holyrood Walk for children aged
five-14.

They will be running on July 22, 23, 29, 30, August 6, 7, 14 and 24, and September 1 – 10am-noon every day.

They are £8 (£6 for club members) per hour and every day will be packed with lots of technique practice, fun and enjoyable games and development practice.

☐ The Steve Machin Charity Day takes place on Saturday.

Gates open at noon and entry to the friendly doubles competition is £5, which includes a sausage bap on arrival.

Pairings will be drawn on the day with racquets and equipment provided.

There will be a bar, refreshments and barbecue, with profits from the day going to the Macmillan Cancer Support charity
