Celebration of market’s contribution to Spalding town centre

VNG170514-24A special event to celebrate the market’s contribution to Spalding life has been heralded a success.

Sunny weather brought shoppers out in good numbers as traders marked Love Your Local Market Day.

Some stallholders even went to work in onesies to bring a smile to their customers’ faces.

The day will be followed by another celebration this Saturday as part of Love Your Local Market fortnight – a national initiative to highlight the contribution markets make to towns’ economies.

Traders in Spalding have embraced the celebration, displaying posters to promote the event, and South Holland District Council has also got involved, holding a stall on the market to tell potential traders about some special offers to help them get a foot on the retail ladder.

Coun Roger Gambba-Jones said: “Our first Love Your Local Market Day in Spalding last Saturday proved a great success with the sunny weather bringing many people out.

“The traders made great efforts to dress up for the occasion, including one in a onesie who also helped raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Pilgrim Hospital.

“Our market staff ran a special stall for the day telling people more about what it means to be a market trader and encouraging those interested in becoming traders to take away information and application forms.

“I am looking forward to the second Love Your Local Market Day being held this Saturday and to meeting as many people as possible on the day.”
