Lincolnshire ladies started their campaign at Skegness, the English bowling federation national finals, on Saturday, August 22, with a great revenge match against Norfolk by winning the Donald Steward National Trophy by 19 shots.
Spalding and District players were represented by Margaret Wheatley (Spalding Castle), Christine Jackson, Petrine Ault (sub) and Julie Hicks from Moulton Harrox.
Wheatley and Stephen Cornwell, from Spalding Castle, lost their first round game against North Essex in the senior mixed competition.
Jessica Butters (Castle) lost in her first round to eventual national runner up in the ladies’ under 25s, As did Marion Perkins, Jackson and Hicks (pairs first round, triples second round).
However, Perkins fought through three rounds to reach the final on Saturday against old rival Ann Patten, of Nottinghamshire, to be federation ladies’ 2 wood singles champion for her first time, 21-14.
Other Spalding successes came from Max Butters (Castle) in the men’s under 25s singles, who also battled through three rounds, two of which Butters stopped his opposition getting that all important one shot to win.
He came back from 12-20 down in the semi final against national 2022 champion to win 21-20. He then faced Joe Sims, 2025 national champion, in the final.
A big game for Butters who unfortunately lost out 10-21.
Chris Mycock and Jordan Philpott (sub for Dominic Mcvittie) from Royal Mail Cart, became the men’s pairs champions beating Derbyshire, Northumberland, Durham then Norfolk in the final.
